Awards

...

Crochet Hub Africa is an award-winning crochet company as seen in the way we are intentional in our designs. The journey has made us build a muscle that peculiarly defines us. Here are some of the awards we would like to show-case:

KCB LIONS DEN SEASON 3 FINALISTS -2018

Have you heard of America’s Shark Tank? Or Shark Tank India? Better still the Japanese Dragon’s Den? In Kenya, the version of all these is Lions’ Den, sponsored by KCB. The program airs on KTN and Crochet Hub Africa took part in the 2018 Season 3 where we were able to strike a deal with business mogul, Olive Gachara. But you know these deals, when you haven’t thought them out carefully! We were still so naïve in the business world but after taking up some entrepreneurship lessons, we opted out. But the appearance was the biggest first step ever. We were so daring, original and young. KCB Lion’s Den Season 3 taught us to step right into a challenge, go through it and come out a changed being.

2ND PRIZE WINNER, PROJECTS CATEGORY- YOUTH CITIZEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP CAMPUS 2019

This entrance was inspired by the naivety we had displayed at the KCB Lion’s Den. Clearly, we needed to sharpen our entrepreneurship skills. The Entrepreneurship Campus had all we needed. We needed to outline and develop our business idea into a sustainable project. The hunt for votes from outside the campus, from within and from fellow contestants daily taught us invaluable marketing skills. Daily, we had to review business plans from other contestants and review them. This gave us a chance to learn a lot from others. In the end, we scooped the second prize in the Projects Category

YOUNG AFRICAN LEADERS INITIATIVE-2020

It was not by sheer luck that both founders of Crochet Hub Africa ended up in Cohort 37/38 of YALI in 2019/2020. We both went into the entrepreneurship track. This training was a special one because for the first time, YALI was doing it virtually due the Corona Virus pandemic. We had highly interactive sessions with our coaches and after graduation, our story was the first to be published for the season.

MBELE NA BIZ AWARDEE-2020

The World Bank in conjunction with the Kenyan Government were offering grants to Kenyan Youth start-ups in the Mbele Na Biz business plan competition. The awards put us right into a network of the best and most innovative youth in Kenya at the time, connecting us solidly to the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs. It was great working with KYEOP AND KPMG as well as the local authorities in Homabay County. We have our fingers crossed for season 2.

TONY ELUMELU FOUNDATION AWARDEE- 2021

Annually, the Tony Elumelu give grants to African start-ups to grow their business. Our plan fell in the innovation category and we were able to scale our business with the funds. We bought raw materials in bulk and also invested in a good video camera, video lights, microphones and other accessories. This has ensured our tutorials are of high resolution.

In the Ms. President Academy, Homabay County was represented by the CEO Crochet Hub Africa. It provided a platform to share lots of innovative ideas beside the training on leadership skills.
